Firebird Morris Dancers

Firebird Morris Dancers In-Person

FIREBIRD MORRIS -Morris dancing is a form of English folk dance. It is based on rhythmic stepping and the execution of choreographed figures by a group of dancers in costume, usually wearing bell pads on their shins. A band or single musician, also costumed, will accompany them. Sticks, swords, handkerchiefs, and a variety of other implements may be wielded by the dancers.

Firebird is a mixed-gender Morris dancing team focusing on Molly and Border dances in the Monadnock region. We work collaboratively, practice weekly, and perform (mostly outdoors) between the end of April and October, most frequently in May.  We learn and perform a variety of dances, some traditional and some that we have made up.  Morris is a living tradition and is continually evolving.

We are a small team and would like to double or triple our membership, so we are opening our practice to all who might be interested. All ages are welcome and no experience is necessary.  Please come join us at the Keene Public Library on Oct 3, Nov 7 and/or Dec 5 from 6:30 to 7:55, to watch and learn some dancing, meet the team, and see if this might be for you!
