Infinite Worlds Book Club In-Person
Welcome to Infinite Worlds, a non-traditional book club for adults focusing on speculative fiction! Each month we will have a set theme within which our members will select their own book to read. At our monthly meetings we will each share about our reads and discuss the topics and tropes that came up within the theme. Join a book club where you pick the book you read. Members are encouraged to pack a dinner to munch during discussion, and the library will provide dessert. From sci-fi to fantasy, dystopias to alternate histories, there are infinite worlds to explore! Register today to ensure we have enough supplies.
November's Theme: Alternate Histories
We're looking at stories that reimagine our past and what might have happened if significant events had turned out differently. As conjecture based upon historical fact, alternate history stories propose What if? scenarios about crucial events in human history, and present outcomes very different from the historical record. Some of these stories may involve time travel, but others are simply rooted in an alternate reality from our own. Examples include: The Man in the High Castle by Philip K Dick, The Years of Rice and Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson, and The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead.
